German police detain 400 “Blockupy” protesters

German police detained 400 anti-austerity protesters in Germany's financial center of Frankfurt today, Reuters reported.
The demonstration united thousands of protesters and 40 different anti-capitalist groups under an event called "Blockupy," Deutsche Welle reported. In preparation for the the demonstration, the city of Frankfurt imposed a ban this week on some of the anti-austerity protests, and the local court also recently ordered that an Occupy-style camp be dismantled. But protesters proceeded with their protest today, despite the ban.

"The ban represents an unprecedented attack on democratic rights," the World Socialist Website argues.
German police said they detained 400 protesters in Frankfurt today for defying the local court's order. Police said that protesters created barricades, staged sit-ins and tore down traffic signs, the Associated Press reported.
"Hungry? Eat a banker," read one sign, according to Reuters.
