Chelsea Clinton tells Vogue she may run for public office

Chelsea Clinton has not ruled out following her parents into politics.

In a wide-ranging interview published in the latest issue of Vogue magazine, Clinton said she would consider running for public office if it were something she felt called to do.

“Before my mom’s campaign I would have said no,” Clinton, the only daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was quoted as saying.

“And now I don’t know. . . . if there were to be a point where it was something I felt called to do and I didn’t think there was someone who was sufficiently committed to building a healthier, more just, more equitable, more productive world? Then that would be a question I’d have to ask and answer.”

Clinton, 32, is married to investment banker Marc Mezvinsky.

Unlike her parents, Clinton has spent most of her career working in the corporate world. She has been a consultant, a Wall Street banker and a journalist, and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in international relations from Oxford.

ABC News noted that by his daughter's age, Bill Clinton was already serving as the Arkansas attorney general.

Hillary Clinton, however, waited until age 54 before entering public office as a US senator.

At least the young Clinton would be used to the spotlight if she did decide to run for public office, the New York Times said.

Clinton spent eight years in the White House under the watchful eye of the media and security detail that continue to follow her.
