"Bucket List baby" Avery Lynn Canahuati died at just 5 months old on Monday, after being diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 1 at birth, CNN reported.
Mike and Laura Canahuati, who live in Texas, created a bucket list blog for their daughter, who was expected to die by the age of two because of her genetic disorder. Their blog quickly went viral, amassing over 1 million page views and spreading the word about spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, ABC News Boston reported.
Canahuati died of pulmonary complications; her father performed CPR and was able to bring her back to life for a short period before she passed away at the hospital, according to the blog.

"Dear Mommy and Daddy," Tuesday's blog post, written in Avery's "voice," reads. "If you're reading this it's because I've gone to take care of my Uncle Bryant, Nana Carolyn, Papa George, and all my great Grandparents. I love you veeeeeeeeeery much. Also, tell Nana & G-Pa I love them too. In fact, tell everyone who loved me that I love them and I appreciate them caring about me.
"When I started writing my blog, I thought I'd only be speaking to my closest friends and family members. Little did I know soooooooo many people would care about me and while I'm flattered to have so many people who love me, I hope they will also take time to love and care about all of my friends out there with SMA."
In her short lifetime, Avery was able to cross many items off her bucket list, CBS News reported, including her first kiss, a tattoo (temporary), and her first baseball game, among others.

"Avery's passing this quickly came as a complete shock to all of us, as she had just been given a thumbs up at her last doctors appointment only three days ago," her father wrote on Tuesday. "While we were aware of the severity of her diagnosis, we never lost hope for Avery and even in her passing, we still have hope for our daughter and all of her friends."
Spinal muscular atrophy is a group of inherited diseases that destroy the neurons in the spine, resulting in muscle damage and weakness, CBS News reported. Type 1 is considered the most severe form of the disease, with a life expectancy rarely longer than 2 to 3 years.
