Brunch instead of breakfast, lunch for Illinois prisoners

GlobalPost

Illinois inmates are about to lose their weekend and holiday breakfasts.

Instead of serving prisoners two separate meals, the Illinois Department of Corrections hopes to save money by serving brunch, the Associated Press reported.

The switch is expected to save the state $2.5 million in the coming fiscal year, and prisoners might not miss their breakfasts.

Many inmates already skip breakfast, Tony Godinez, the department's director, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Nobody wants to get up at 5 a.m. to eat," the paper quoted him as saying.
