1958 postcard sent from Chicago finally reaches destination

A postcard mailed from Chicago more than 50 years ago has finally reached its destination — but not without a little help from Facebook.

Scott McMurry's mother had sent him the postcard of the Windy City's Shedd Aquarium in the summer of 1958.

The postcard was addressed to Clairmont Lane in Decatur, Ga., where McMurry grew up. But it recently arrived in Elizabeth Fulcher's mailbox on Clairmont Lane in South Daytona, Fla., The Associated Press reported.

Fulcher posted a picture of the postcard on Facebook and her friends helped track down McMurry, according to the AP.

The half-century U.S. Postal Service delay remains a mystery.

Meanwhile, the Shedd Aquarium has offered to give McMurry, a historian with the Justice Department, a tour of the attraction his late parents visited more than half a century ago, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

"Hopefully, I'll be able to come next week," he told the newspaper. "I'm looking forward to it."
