Texas teen impaled by bull statue’s horn

A 14-year-old Texas boy is dead after accidentally impaling himself on a bull statue's horn during a game of hide and seek.

Miguel Martinez was running around with friends on the grounds of the National Ranching Center in Lubbock at about 3 AM Saturday when he tripped over a light and fell onto the statue's horn, KSHB reported.

Miguel died at the scene. A friend held him until he passed away, according to the New York Daily News.

"I just laid there beside him. I put my jacket over him and just held him tight and told him I loved him," the friend, identified only as Jeremy, told KCBD. "He was like a big brother to me."

Police at the University of Texas are investigating the death.

An adult who was nearby at the time told The Associated Press she's convinced the teen's death was "pure accident."

"It's hard for all of us," Miguel's mother, Judith Leseberg, told KCBD. "No mother expects this to happen to their child."
