A young man who was due to be married in June died Saturday in a freak accident at a bar in Sydney, Australia.

Matthew Bell, of Glenmore Park in Sydney's west, was celebrating with friends at a popular bar, Jacksons on George hotel, near The Rocks, when the tragedy happened, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Witnesses told police the 26-year-old attempted to slide down a staircase rail between the second and third floors when he lost his balance and fell. He landed at the bottom of the stairwell.

Security officers as well as an off-duty police officer at the bar performed CPR at the scene before he was taken to hospital.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Bell, a civil engineer, was reportedly set to marry his partner in June, The Australian reported.

His brother and many of his friends at the bachelor party saw it happen.
