Princess Diana dresses go for over $1.2 million

GlobalPost

One of Princess Diana's most famous dresses sold for $1.2 million on Tuesday to a "British gentleman as a surprise to cheer up his wife," according to The Associated Press, citing a London auction house.

None of the other buyers of the total 10-gown collection were revealed, said AP, but Kerry Taylor Auctions said there was interest from buyers around the globe as well as three museums.

But the unnamed British gentlemen purchased perhaps her most famous gown, a dark blue Victor Edelstein she appeared in while dancing with John Travolta at a 1985 White House dinner, said AP

The beloved British princess died in a Paris car crash in 1997.
