Nigeria: Multiple explosions hit city of Kano

A series of explosions on Monday hit a Christian neighborhood in Kano, the largest city in the mainly Muslim north of Nigeria.
Scores of people were injured and sent to nearby hospitals.
Witness Kolade Ade said at least one blast seemed to come from a Mercedes-Benz car parked beside a kiosk selling alcohol and other drinks. The neighborhood is known for being lined with outdoor bars and eateries.
The explosions came as hundreds of people gathered in the area to participate in activities like snooker and table tennis.

"There is confusion all over the place. There were four huge explosions, so huge that they shook the whole area. Everywhere is enveloped in smoke and dust," said Chinyere Madu, a fruit vendor.
The same neighborhood — Sabon Gari — had previously been attacked in March by militants from the Islamist group Boko Haram, killing at least 22 people.
Nigeria's government has been fighting an Islamic uprising led by Boko Haram. The group wants Islamic law imposed on the entire country, which is divided almost equally between Muslims and Christians.
