Indian teen gang-raped, burned alive by 3 men

A teenage girl has died after she was gang-raped and burned alive by three men in a village in northern India, police said.

The girl, age 13 or 14, was pronounced dead at a hospital Wednesday morning, the Times of India reported.

She suffered burns to 80 percent of her body following the incident Tuesday night in the Sirsa Kalaar area of Orai, which lies in the district of Jalaun in northern India's Uttar Pradesh state.

According to police, the eighth-grader was walking home from a local farm with her sister when she was grabbed by three men.

Her sister was able to escape and run for help, but to no avail.

After raping her, the men set the girl on fire. The girl's family told the Times she had threatened to tell the rest of the village what they had done to her.

Although the girl's parents have yet to file an official complaint, local authorities were raiding different locations in search of the assailants.
