Fed up with Canadians flaunting their surprise chocolate eggs in their faces, US candy makers have pledged to have an even more delicious treat in stores by Easter.
Candy Treasure has announced that its Choco Treasure Eggs will be available in the US after a very close call at the Canada-US border two years ago.
It was then a Canadian woman went public with her story about facing a $300 fine for trying to bring Kinder Surprise Eggs, which are illegal in the US, across the 49th parallel.
Food Beast reports that US border agents seize 60,000 potentially deadly Kinder eggs every year despite threats of heavy fines.
The Italian confection in question features a chocolate egg with a plastic capsule inside that contains a collectible toy.
However, the US Food and Drug Administration and Consumer Product Safety Commission deemed the toys a choking hazard.
In comes Candy Treasure of Lebanon, New Jersey to save the day.
“We worked closely with both of these agencies to meet or exceed their requirements and ensure that Choco Treasure is fun and safe for all ages. While we were at it, we also made a few other changes to make sure Choco Treasure is as tasty as can be for American kids,” the company said on its website.
The American eggs feature soccer balls, footballs, animals and even Spider-Man.
