Crocodile traps man on Australian island for 2 weeks
The endangered Cuban crocodile, known for its leaping ability and aggressive disposition, faces a threat from its mates.
What would you take with you to a desert island? How about a gun to kill the crocodile that is holding you captive there?
That's probably what a New Zealand tourist wanted after he spent two weeks trapped on a small island off Western Australia, being stalked by a crocodile.
Every time Ryan Blair tried to leave in his kayak he was approached by the seemingly hungry predator.
The 20-foot croc hovered around Governor Island for two weeks, patiently waiting and probably imagining how tasty his catch would be.
It is unclear what Blair survived on, but he had water with him that he rationed during his stay.
He tried to get the attention of fishermen and passing planes using a mirror and fires but to no avail.
He was eventually rescued by a man in a boat who claimed to be familiar with the aggressive crocodile.
The man who saved him said of the rescue:
"He was desperate for water when I trotted up.
"We gave him a cold beer, which was probably the wrong thing, and then he went to sleep about three-quarters of the way home."
