This chart shows which countries produce the most electricity from renewable energy

GlobalPost

Using data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration , we found which countries are producing the most electricity from renewable resources.

But before you get to thinking China and the United States are pioneers in clean energy, remember that the chart above refers to total electricity generated from renewables, meaning on a global scale these countries produce the most clean electricity. To get a better sense of which country is actually the most green, we have to look at the numbers relative to total electricity consumption in each country.

It's now clear that while China and America are top producers of electricity from renewable resources, the amount they're generating is no where near the amount of electricity being consumed by their populations. China only generates 19 percent of the total electricity it consumes from renewables and the United States generates 13 percent.

In fact, only one out of the 10 countries produces enough electricity from renewables to meet it's demand for electricity: Norway. Brazil makes a substantial impact, with electricity from renewables covering 96 percent of its needs and Canada isn't doing too bad either with renewables generating 72 percent of it's total electricity consumption.
