The song ‘Wherever I Go’ has brought this DJ back to Haiti to support the arts

DJ and record producer Michael Brun is based in Miami now, but he's originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  

Back in June 2015, he made a special trip to Haiti. He wanted to record a song at the Audio Insititute. It's a school with a special mission. Brun says the school "allows anyone who's talented, usually from poorer families, to have the opportunity to get a great education in the arts and to eventually have a career as well." 

And so, Brun asked the faculty and students if they'd like to record the song with him. The result? "Wherever I Go."

Brun says the music itself was recorded in just one day, at the institute. The vocals were laid down later and features two of Haiti's most popular singers, J Perry and BelO. 

So, the tune is a true collaboration among the most talented musicians in Haiti. Brun says, "this experience of creating this song … was really eye-opening and seeing that we could do something as a community and as Haitians to make a track together — that was very positive and uplifting."

And Brun says the song will also give back. He says all proceeds from sales and downloads will go back to the school and the non-profit that runs it "so that they can continue creating scholarships and giving opportunities to these really talented students."
