Remembering David Bowie — in pictures

David Bowie, whose influence was felt by generations of musicians from Madonna and Lady Gaga to Nirvana and even composer Philip Glass, died on Sunday.

According to a statement posted on his Facebook page, he died after having cancer for 18 months.

“David Bowie died peacefully today, surrounded by his family,” the post read.

The singer, who had been living in New York in recent years, only released his latest album, "Blackstar," on Friday — his birthday.

With hits like “Let’s Dance" and anthems like “Changes,” Bowie's music and art reached far and wide.
