Maybe it’s Handel’s “Messiah,” or something by Bing Crosby? Or maybe it’s something less conventional, like The Ramones’ “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight).” Whatever it is, everybody’s got their own pick for the best holiday song. We asked you to weigh in: What’s the music you play around this time of year? Old standards, or your own distinct traditions? You had plenty of responses.
A caller from Canada had this response:
“My favorite holiday song is the Barenaked Ladies/Sarah McLaughlan version of ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.'”
Another listener, from Brooklyn, called in with a much different response, regarding the opposite of their favorite music during the holiday season:
“Least fave this year: Have a Holly Jolly Christmas. I’ve walked out of one store just because the melody is sooo insidious.”
