Obama withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, won’t end the war

The Takeaway

The war currently costs the United States about $10 billion each month. President Obama may be trying to cut down on that number when he announces a troop drawdown later today.

“I don’t know if he’ll lay out a new strategy,” Leslie Gelb, past President of the Council on Foreign Relations told The Takeaway. He will be announcing a drawdown of troops, though. This may mark the beginning of the end of large combat operations by the United States, but the drawdown will be slow and fighting will likely continue for a long time.
