Today, the Metropolitan Museum of art launches its newest Costume Institute exhibit, and it already has all the ingredients to be one of this year’s biggest happenings.
The exhibit is called “Punk: From Chaos to Couture” and its launch coincides with the annual Met Gala, which took place this past Monday.
Some critics argue that the exhibition and the gala are proof that punk is over. But if punk is everywhere, including a museum exhibit, is punk over; or has it officially won?
Kelly Maxwell mulls over this question in a new piece for Bust Magazine. And she’ll be lecturing on the commodificition punk in fashion at the Parsons School of Design next semester.
