Military contractors in Afghanistan lack supervision

The Takeaway

The US relies heavly on private security forces for the war in Afghanistan, and some of those security workers hired to protect U.S. military bases have either used American taxpayer money to support the Taliban or have been found to be Taliban officers themselves. Of the 26,000 private security workers in Afghanistan, 90 percent work for the U.S. Government, and the overstretched military has found that many people nearly impossible to oversee effectively.

Many private security workers are not hired directly by the military, but by contractors who are inadequately supervised. Takeaway correspondent Todd Zwillich discusses the new Senate Armed Services Committee report.
