The Tavis Smiley Show

The "worried well" is a term many health professionals now call a group of post-Katrina survivors who are functioning; but are depressed, or tired, or drinking a lot, and alone.

Also, many of New Orleans severely mentally ill residents have returned to the city and once again, they comprise the bulk of calls for services. All these calls are handled by the NOPD Crisis Unit. As the Unit’s coordinator, Cecile Tebo’s job is to respond to the city’s mentally ill on their worse days.

Stacie Propst, Vice President of Science Policy and Outreach at Research America, discusses the results of their recent survey discovering that Louisiana residents feel that poor mental health is the most socially impacting by-product of Hurricane Katrina.

"The Tavis Smiley Show" is a weekly show offering a unique blend of news and newsmakers in expanded conversations, along with feature reports and regular commentators. "The Tavis Show is produced by Tavis Smiley productions, and distributed nationwide by PRI.
