Madeleine Albright Explores the American Relationship with China

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright faced a number of complex challenges throughout her State Department career. Secretary Albright took office in 1997, and devoted much of her tenure to fallout from the Cold War – particularly the wars in the Balkans – but she also managed the United States’ relationship with a rapidly-changing China at the turn of the  millennium.
As the United States and China continue to negotiate for the safety of dissident Chen Guangcheng, Secretary Albright discusses the United States’ current relationship with China. “What makes this so difficult and actually internationally interesting is that both Secretary Clinton and Secretary Geithner are there as part of on-going talks that the US is trying to have with China to kind of regularize the relationship across the board, on diplomatic and economic issues,” she says. Secretary Albright explores the impact of U.S.-China negotiations and discusses  her new book, “Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937-1948.”
