House Passes GOP’s Controversial Domestic Violence Bill

Amid harsh pushback from Democrats and women’s groups claiming a “war on women,” and in the face of a White House veto threat, the Republican-led House voted yesterday to approve a GOP measure reauthorizing the expired Violence Against Women Act.  
Back in April, the Senate approved a bill that added a host of protections to the 1994 anti-violence law, covering undocumented immigrants, same-sex partners, and Native-American women. But these protections were removed in the House’s bill, setting the stage for a major showdown between the House and the Senate.
