An Eerie Walk Through the Tsarnaev’s Boston Area Neighborhood

Laure Mandeville knows Chechnya well.

For 20 years, she covered Russia and its Caucusus region for the French newspaper Le Figaro.

Mandeville is now chief US correspondent for the daily.

She came to Boston over the weekend to speak with members of the Chechen community here, and to friends and neighbors of Boston bombing suspects Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

She says after having covered Russia and the former Soviet Union for years, tracing back the Tsarnaev brothers' steps through their close-knit community brought more questions than answers.

Do you support journalism that strengthens our democracy?

At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.

Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever!
