Yankee Rowe: The Little Nuclear Plant that Couldn’t

Living on Earth

As part of our series marking our first year on the air, Steve recaps our coverage of Massachusetts’ Yankee Rowe nuclear power plant. A year ago the nation’s oldest nuclear facility was poised to become the first plant to apply for an extension of its 40-year license. Today, the plant is permanently shut down, and may become the first plant to actually be dismantled. The turnabout may signal an important change in the economics of older nuclear plants.
