Withdrawing troops from Iraq

The World

President Bush split his time speaking to the press about Iraq and Afghanistan and he painted two very different pictures. He said Iraq is becoming a safer place. When he turned his attention to Afghanistan, he spoke continuously about terrorism and said more American troops would restore basic security. Obama responded by saying the redeployment plan comes up short. This military affairs analyst welcomed the announcement from the President but he agreed with Obama when he says the number of troops being sent to Afghanistan is not enough. And he says there’s also the risk that removing troops from Iraq will overburden those who remain but that’s a risk we need to take. This analyst says there may be a lot of politics behind Bush’s announcement. Who Bush’s successor is will affect future withdrawals quite heavily.
