My America: John Turturro

The World

All this week, we’ve been talking with influential Americans about what patriotism and America means to them. We’re calling the series “My America.”  We’re wrapping up the series today, with actor, writer, and director John Turturro. Famous for his roles in movies like “Do the Right Thing,” “Barton Fink,” “The Big Lebowski,” and the “Transformers” trilogy, Turturro’s newest film is called “Passione.”
John was born in Brooklyn, New York, to an Italian-American mother and a father who emigrated as a child from Italy to the U.S.  He joins us from Prague, where he’s receiving the President’s Award at the Czech Republic’s 46th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Do you support journalism that strengthens our democracy?

At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.

Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever!
