Disabled workers hit harder by the recession

The World

According to the 2000 U.S. Census, one in five Americans is considered disabled. As of this month, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is nearly 14 percent, significantly higher than the 10 percent unemployment rate for the general population. How can we narrow the gap?

Justin Jones-Fosu, leadership trainer and host of WEAA Baltimore’s “Listen Up!”, offers tips to both employers and job seekers. And Alana Wallace, who stars in Think Beyond The Label’s anti-disability discrimination ad campaign (as Marie Benson, below), shares her own experience as a working person with a disability.
