If you felt like defrosting last night’s dinner took too long, try thawing a squid the size of a three-story building. That’s what scientists in New Zealand are doing this week to a half-ton specimen of the rare Colossal Squid, caught by fisherman off Antarctica last year. It’s one of only about six colossal squid ever pulled up from the icy deep, and by far the largest and best-preserved. Carol Diebel is Director of Natural Environment at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Center and part of the squid team, and she joins Faith Salie on Fair Game from Wellington.
