Dinah Sheridan, a British actress best known for her role as the mother in "The Railway Children," has died at age 92.
Sheridan died at her home in Northwood, Middlesex on Sunday, peaceful and surrounded by her family, BBC News reported.
The actress was considered "the quintessential English rose" because of her "elegance and understated beauty," according to the Guardian.
She began her career at age 12, when she played the part of Wendy in Peter Pan alongside Charles Laughton as Captain Hook.
Sheridan started working in film soon after at 16, and appeared in "Irish And Proud of It" in 1938, among other movies such as "Genevieve," "29 Acacia Avenue," "The Sound Barrier," and "Appointment in London."
Sheridan married the actor Jimmy Hanley in 1942, and they had three children: Jeremy, a politician who served as Conservative Party chairman in the 1990s; Jenny, also an actress; and another daughter, who died just three days after her birth, BBC reported.
She left Hanley in 1949, and went on to have three more marriages.
"I've had a very strange life," the actress once said, according to BBC. "Whenever I've married, I've married for life. But things have gone desperately wrong."
She gave up acting to drive an ambulance during World War II, NME reported.
