Musical ‘In and Out of Shadows’ Tells the Stories of Undocumented Teens

In and Out of Shadows

Many of the actors in ‘In and Out of Shadows’ have experienced first hand what it’s like to be undocumented and in constant fear of deportation. One of these brave performers is Homero Rosas, a young actor who plays Juan, a boy who arrived to the United States alone when he was 13.

‘In and Out of Shadows’ is based on oral histories that the cast collected from around the Bay Area. Writer Gary Soto used these stories to craft the script for the musical, while Emily Klion worked alongside George Brooks to create the music. The musical is directed by Cliff Mayotte.
