As Editor of GlobalPost, Thomas Mucha oversaw GlobalPost's editorial operations. He also wrote a Society of American Business Editors and Writers' (SABEW) Best in Business Award-winning column on global business and economics, as well as GlobalPost's Macro blog on the global economy.

Under Mucha's direction, GlobalPost won a Peabody Award and two Edward R. Murrow Awards for its On Location video series, a Polk Award for the site's coverage of the Syrian conflict, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and a National Press Club Award for reporting on Myanmar, an Overseas Press Club Award for GlobalPost’s coverage of the Libyan rebellion, and 32 SABEW awards for the site's coverage of the global economy and business. The site was also a Webby Awards Finalist for five years running.

As GlobalPost’s editorial leader, Mucha appeared on National Public Radio’s Talk of the World, Talk of the Nation, and On the Media, as well as Public Radio International’s The World, The Bob Edwards Show, ABC News and other local, national and international radio and television broadcasts.

He started with GlobalPost at its inception in October 2008.

Mucha spent his first decade in journalism as a writer, producer, and editor for CNN and CNN International in New York and London where he covered Wall Street, the US and global economies, Asia’s economic rise, the birth of the euro, as well as global emerging markets. He was Senior Producer of daily news broadcasts Business Asia and World Business Today, and Senior Writer for CNN’s Emmy Award-winning program Moneyline. In addition, Mucha worked on the assignment desk for CNN Financial News in New York where he coordinated daily business coverage across 19 CNN bureaus around the world. He was also a participant of the World Economic Forum annual meetings in Davos, Switzerland.

Mucha also spent four years as a columnist and features writer for Time Inc.’s Business 2.0 Magazine, where he covered global business, technology and other topics, including a weekly column on global marketing. His magazine work has appeared in Wired, Details and other leading print publications.

Prior to his arrival at GlobalPost, Mucha was Assistant Managing Editor of Crain’s Chicago Business where he led features and special projects. While at Crain’s, Mucha launched its award-winning global business and economics coverage, leading reporting and video teams to China, India, Brazil, and Indonesia. He also co-produced several award-winning video series on entrepreneurship, global business and other topics and was a frequent public speaker on Chicago business and global economics issues. In partnership with Chicago’s WBBM/CBS Radio, Mucha also produced and presented a weekly radio segment on Chicago business and entrepreneurship.

Mucha has an MA in international relations from the University of Chicago. His degree program focused on global economics, politics and business, with an emphasis on China and India. Mucha’s academic work also emphasized the Middle East, including research and reporting trips to Egypt, Jordan and Israel to study economic and political liberalization in the region.
