Amy Maxmen is a freelance journalist who covers the entanglements of evolution, medicine, policy and of the people behind research. Her stories appear in a variety of outlets, including Nova/PBS, National Geographic, Nature, Newsweek, Al Jazeera and the New York Times. Her reporting from Ethiopia on the origin of humanity is anthologized in The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2015. She previously served as senior editor at Nautilus magazine. Prior to writing, she earned a Ph.D. in evolution from Harvard University
