Labor report shows continued slow growth in U.S. employment
The much-anticipated jobs report from the U.S. Labor Department, out Friday, showed decreasing unemployment levels, but fewer new jobs created in March. It’s just another sign that the current recovery is moving forward at a snail’s pace.
U.S. economy shows some signs of life, adds 80,000 jobs
The U.S. unemployment rate ticked down a tenth of a percent 9 percent in October after the economy added 80,000 jobs, the latest U.S. Department of Labor figures show.
Private employers, the backbone of the economy, drove nearly all of the gains last month, adding 230,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate dipped to 8.8 percent in March. Charlie Herman, editor for The Takeaway and WNYC Radio, analyzes the news.
