However, opponents and monitors are questioning the fairness of the election, claiming abuse of election monitors and so-called “carousel voting.” Anti-Putin protests are expected at the Moscow Kremlin Monday night.
Thousands of protesters gathered in Moscow on Monday over accusations that Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party engaged in fraud in recent parliamentary elections. Observers say the witnessed flagrant ballot box stuffing, among other violations. United Russia maintained its majority in the elections, but lost two-thirds of its control of Parliament.
