‘Fire and Fury’ in Europe: ‘Everyone at the school gate was talking about it this morning’

Michael Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury,” about life inside Team Trump, is not just a big story here in the United States. The world is watching.

Author and journalist Oliver Bullough says it's a hot topic in London right now. “My 4-year-old isn’t talking about it. But at the school gate this morning, everyone was talking about it. My mother-in-law, who’s just come to pick up the kids, she’s talking about it.”

“I think everyone just shares a kind of an appalled fascination,” says Bullough. “The level of haplessness is so extraordinary; I think the main emotion is just a sort of degree of bafflement and horror, really, that [that] is what’s happening to our closest partner as a country, or one of our closest partners.”

Critics say the book is gossipy and that many of its anecdotes are uncorroborated. Bullough says that many of the issues in the book have been described elsewhere but without such “appalling detail.”
