A shocking satellite photograph taken by DigitalGlobe captures the scene of the Costa Concordia cruise ship after it capsized off the coast of an island in Italy.
The photograph, taken on Jan. 17, shows the ship next to the island of Giglio, Italy. Juxtaposed with small structures that look like homes, the cruise ship looks enormous.
The ship ran aground Friday after sailing too close to shore. The captain is being held under house arrest, accused of manslaughter and failing to lead the rescue operation.
Captain Francesco Schettino has reportedly claimed he abandoned the ship by accident – having tripped and fallen into a lifeboat.
