A man stabbed four people at a downtown office building in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday afternoon before being shot by a police officer he lunged at with his weapon.
Three of the victims were in critical condition and a fourth received minor injuries, Columbus police spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner told The Associated Press.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was also in critical condition, according to the AP.
Police told CNN the suspect's motive was not yet clear, and they did not know whether there's a connection between the suspect and the victims.
The attack was reported before 1 p.m. at a building that houses offices of the attorney general and Miami-Jacobs Career College, AP reported.
Jason Jackson, 31, works at a food stand in the building's lobby. He told the Columbus Dispatch that he heard a scream and a security guard told everyone to leave.
People tripped over one another trying to get out of the building, Jackson told the newspaper.
After Jackson left the building, he told the newspaper he circled back and saw a man headed toward officers.
The officers told the man to drop his weapon, but the man lunged at an officer who then shot him, Jackson told the Columbus Dispatch.
