An Emirati nurse has just joined the gynecology section at a UAE hospital and she wanted to know if she is allowed to see female patients’ genitals.
I know it sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it’s actually a true story.
Or, at least, that’s what the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej reported.
The Fatwa (Islamic edict) center at the Ministry of Justice, responded to her:
Seeing these parts of a female patient’s body is allowed at ICU as long as it is for the sake of treatment. What is done at ICUs is governed by rules that permits things which are otherwise prohibited…if the treatment of a patient requires exposure of sensitive parts of the body, then this is permissible.
Makes me want to ask: why would need to see female genitals in the hospital, other than for the sake of treatment?
