Some famous Chinese writers will have their day in court against tech giant Apple.
A consortium of well-known Chinese authors who say they've lost profits because of Apple's download services have announced their case against the global tech company has been accepted by a Beijing court, Chinese media says. Among those suing are Han Han, the race-car driving blogger and social critic who has been cited among China's most influential people.
The case could be an important one for Chinese writers trying to protect piracy of their intellectual property. A spokesman for the Chinese writers' group said most people who buy the downloads via Apple don't know when they are purchasing pirated goods, costing their favorite authors profits. Apple didn't comment on the suit, which is seeking $1.89 million in damages for the nine writers.
