With Supreme Court orders to investigate the alleged 2G telecom spectrum scam no matter how many big fish get fried, India's Central Bureau of Investigation called Ratan Tata's right hand man and Tata Sons director R K Krishna Kumar in for an interview that lasted nearly six hours (counting or not counting tea breaks?), reports the Indian Express.
According to the paper, the CBI quizzed Kumar, who also heads Tata Realty, about a loan of Rs.$350 million the company advanced to Unitech in 2008 ostensibly to procure 2G spectrum licences.
The investigating agency is also investigating whether the Tata Group traded property to Telecom Minister A Raja to jump the queue in the license process, offering the Voltas Building in Chennai as a kickback.
The Voltas building was transferred to the wife of DMK party patriarch M Karunanidhi in late 2007, CBI sources allege, according to the paper. (For those playing along with the home version of Scam Central — that's the DMK that's the Congress' ally in Tamil Nadu, from which the former telcon minister hails).
Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, however, has denied the charge that the property was traded for political favor.
