Pink Floyd guitarist’s son jailed for rioting

Charlie Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd guitarist, Dave Gilmour was jailed today for 16 months after going on a rampage during demonstations last year in Central London over university fees.

Witnesses reported the Cambridge University student was seen hanging from a Union flag on the Cenotaph (war memorial) and leaping on to the bonnet of a Jaguar car that formed part of a convoy carrying Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

According to Associated Press, the court heard the 21 year-old turned to drink and drugs after “being rejected by his biological father, the writer Heathcote Williams, and had taken LSD and valium in the hours leading up to the violence.”

Judge Nicholas Price QC said his climbing on the war memorial caused huge offence.

“Such outrageous and deeply offensive behaviour gives a clear indication of how out of control you were that day," he said. "It caused public outrage and understandably so."

In a statement, Charlie Gilmour said: “I feel nothing but shame. My intention was not to attack or defile the Cenotaph. Running along with a crowd of people who had just been violently repelled by the police, I got caught up in the spirit of the moment.”

Gilmour also was accused of hurling a rubbish bin at a car.
