Paris Fashion Week kicked off with top international design houses at the most exclusive Haute Couture collections for Fall/Winter 2011-2012 on display.

Fashion's biggest names were on the ramp including Giorgio Armani, Chanel and Dior. The Lebanese designer Elie Saab who is big in the couture world also dazzled the catwalk with a range of classic and elegant dresses. The gowns were feather-light and ultra-sheer and out of a fairy tale, according to reviews by the Washington Post and AFP

Chanel's famous designer Karl Lagerfeld opted for a more mysterious glamour this season with lots of veiled faces, dark colors and glittering outfits. Giorgio Armani went for a more dramatic look with fascinator hats and outrageous headgear that is bound to attract attention. He has also dedicated his couture collection to the Japanese tsunami victims, taking inspiration from Japan's floral silks, kimonos and geisha hairdos, according to the Evening Standard

The French brand On Aura Tout Vu also made a bold statement with their couture collections this season. Dior, for whom it is the first fashion week after the scandal with the infamous John Galliano, who was fired earlier this year for making anti-semitic statements, was not able to live up to its standards, according to the Washington Post.

Other famous design houses that featured their couture labels include the Brazilian designer Gustavo Lins as well as Paris' own designers Alexandre Vauthier, Stephane Rolland and Julien Fournié.
