Morrissey likens McDonalds to Norway massacre

English singer Morrissey says the massacre Norway is "nothing compared" to what happens to animals killed for fast-food chains, according to reports.

The former Smiths front-man, a vegan who is a vocal supporter of animals rights, made the observation on stage at a performance in Warsaw, Poland, on Sunday night, the Daily Mirror reports.

On stage he said “We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead," before playing his song Meat is Murder.
 

“Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald's and Kentucky Fried S— every day," he said.

The current death toll has since been revised down to 76.

The Mirror said the 52 year-old criticised the two fast-food giants two nights before, singing the same hit.
 

"Morrissey has decided not to comment any further," a spokesman told the Guardian, “as he believes his statement speaks for itself."

Morrissey has previosuly been outspoken on animal rights saying, “It's a moral issue. Killing a stag is like killing a child. What's the difference?"
 

Some fans in music bible NME said they felt alienated by Morrissey’s stance. “Insensitive, out of touch and living in his own world. Eventually, he will alienate himself from the rest of us and it can't come too soon," said one fan.

Another added: "The sad thing is some of these poor kids were probably fans of his."
