Dunaden wins the Melbourne Cup in Australia

GlobalPost

Dunaden has won the Melbourne Cup.

The French horse, ridden by a French jockey, won the $6.2 million Australian race in a thrilling photo-finish. Red Cadeaux, an English horse with a French name, came second. The favorite — a French horse named Americaine (still with us?)— finished somewhere toward the tail end of the field.

Down Under watched "the race that stops a nation" and was impressed at the efforts of Dunaden's jockey Christophe Lemaire, who flew in from France last night.

Down Under has flown several times from France to Australia and most certainly did not feel like getting on a horse immediately afterward.
