Chile is preparing to host South America's first solar car race.
The event, known as the Atacama Solar Challenge, will be held in northern Chile from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.
It will cover 1,060 kilometers, and 30 teams from seven countries will compete.
The cars will race through Antofagasta, Calama and Iquique in Chile's Atacama Desert.
The desert has one of the highest rates of solar radiation in the world.
