Argentina’s first gospel choir

Check out this heart-warming video of Argentina’s first gospel choir.

The members — men and women — sing in English, and try to emulate the sound, style and moves of American gospel choirs.

They aren’t exactly about to unseat Mahalia Jackson as the Queen of Gospel.

One singer acknowledged the challenge in trying to master the sound. She told the BBC:

The difference between us Argentines and African-American singers is culture and experience. Just as it will be difficult for them to dance tango or other Argentine dances, it is very challenging for us to reach the vocal virtuosity that they show.

But it’s not often that you see such an earnest attempt, or such a joyful, impassioned performance.
