Andy Rooney’s college roommate nearly died at the CBS commentator’s funeral, which was held today in New York City.
TMZ broke the story that Bob Ruthman, Rooney’s friend since they attended Colgate University together in the 1930s and 1940s, had a heart attack at the Century Club during lunch for memorial service guests. TMZ reported that Rooney’s son, Brian, announced to the crowd that Ruthman had died. However, Ruthman was revived by medics and transported to an intensive care unit at a New York hospital, according to the Web site.
Rooney died on Nov. 5 at age 92 from complications following minor surgery, according to a CBS statement. He worked for CBS for 60 years, sharing his curmudgeonly perspective on life in 1,097 essays for "60 Minutes.”
