The dead body of a third miner was found as rescue workers searched a flooded coal mine in South Wales, police reportedly said.
Fire department official Chris Margetts told the Associated Press workers found the first dead miner at the bottom of the main shaft and the second where he was working in the Gleision Colliery near Swansea. It has not yet been announced where the third miner was located.
Margetts said he is hopeful the other miner will be found alive. There has been no sign of the fourth one.
"The search and rescue operation is still on-going and we maintain hope we can find them alive," he told AP, when there were hopes that two remained alive.
The four trapped miners have been reported to be Phillip Hill, 45, Charles Bresnan, 62, David Powell, 50, and Garry Jenkins, 39. The dead miners have not been identified.
The accident at the coal mine, which is in a steep and isolated hillside, occurred early Thursday morning when flood water engulfed the pt. Three other miners were able to escape; one is in the hospital.
The focus of rescue work has been on pumping out the water, ITN reports.
Families are waiting at a community center in the village as rescue teams from across the United Kingdom are being brought in to help.
