Syrian opposition activist gets buried alive (VIDEO)

A graphic video has surfaced on the internet that appears to show a Syrian opposition activist getting buried alive. The footage cannot yet be verified for accuracy, the Daily Telegraph reported. But the footage may have been posted in order to frighten other activists. The Telegraph said it seems that the footage was posted online by soldiers loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, most likely one of the Shabiha, the informal militia that does the regime's "dirty work."

The news comes as Kuwait News Agency reported today that the Syrian regime has been heavily criticized for its treatment of the press and citizen journalists. "We call for the immediate release of all professional journalists, citizen journalists and bloggers jailed by the regime," Reporters Without Borders told KUNA.

In the video, the victim is buried up to his neck in sand. He is described as being from Al-Qussair, a city in western Syria near Homs, Ynet reported, and he is accused of filming Assad's forces with intentions to send the footage to news media.  

The soldiers then begin shoveling more sand on his head. "I bear witness that there is no God by Allah," the activist says. The soldiers respond: "Say that there’s no God but Bashar, you animal," according to Ynet.

The Syrian opposition called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations security council as a result of the footage and other recent brutality, according to the Telegraph.
