The Syrian National Coalition has received an invitation from the Arab League to attend the group’s meeting in Doha, Qatar later this month.
A representative from the SNC can attend provided it forms a “representative executive council,” Al Jazeera reported.
The League also cleared member states to support the rebels with military aid if desired, Al Jazeera said.
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby made the announcement today in Cairo. Syria lost its seat on the Arab League two years ago after violating terms of a peace agreement, The Associated Press said.
The SNC is a collection of opposition groups attempting to unseat President Bashar al-Assad’s government.
It has the support of Western and Arab League states.

Also today, Britain pledged more military support for the nearly two-year uprising that has displaced more than 1 million people.
Foreign Secretary William Hague offered military vehicles, body armor and non-lethal equipment to “moderate, democratic forces,” according to the Guardian.
Hague also said in the British House of Commons that efforts to stop the killing in Syria have been an “abject failure.”
The non-lethal equipment includes water purification, electrical repair and methods to test for chemical weapons, the Guardian reported. Hague said the European Union plans to review an arms embargo in May.
